With the continuous strengthening of domestic environmental protection requirements, the market share of electric forklifts continues to rise. As the heart of an electric forklift, the life of the battery is directly related to the life of the entire vehicle. For this reason, battery technology experts will introduce how to extend the life of the battery of forklift.
Daily maintenance tips for lead-acid batteries
- The battery liquid level change, when charging and discharging
(1) When the battery is discharged (Forklift works): the gas generated in the pores of the battery plate during the discharging of the battery continuously emerges due to vibration, so the liquid level of the battery will drop slightly.
(2) When the battery is charging: In the pores of the battery plate, a large amount of gas is generated by the electrolysis of water under the action of the current. These gases will cause the volume of the battery electrolyte to increase and the liquid level to rise.

2. About the loss of battery liquid
(1) When the battery is being charged, especially in the middle and late stages of charging, the phenomenon of electrolysis of water is generated under the action of the charging current, and the water in the battery fluid is electrolyzed. Hydrogen (negative electrode) and oxygen (positive electrode) are produced and precipitated, resulting in a large consumption of water in the electrolyte
(2) The electrochemical reaction of the battery is violent in the middle and later stages of charging, and the discharged gas will splash out of the battery with the battery liquid, but the amount of splashing is very small, and it will also affect the electrolyte level of the battery to some extent.
(3) During the charging process, if the electrolyte level of the battery is too high, a large amount of electrolyte will overflow and flow to the bottom of the battery case due to the volume expansion of the battery electrolyte. In addition to causing loss of electrolyte, it will also cause damage to the battery case. Corrosion will seriously affect the normal use of the battery. In order to avoid this situation, the height of the battery electrolyte liquid level should be strictly controlled.
3.Why should you add pure water:
(1).In the middle and later stages of charging, a large amount of electrolyzed water is produced, which is the main reason for the lack of water in the battery electrolyte.
(2).At any time, no matter how the electrolyte level of the battery changes, the electrolyte must be immersed in the electrode plate (the electrode plate should not be exposed to the battery fluid), so as to ensure that the lead on the battery electrode plate and the sulfuric acid in the electrolyte are fully obtained. reaction.
(3) The battery should maintain the proper specific gravity of the electrolyte during operation, and maintain the consistency of the specific gravity of the electrolyte between the individual cells. Otherwise, it is difficult to ensure the consistency of the performance of all batteries. The better the consistency of the battery, the better the performance of the battery will be.
4. How to add water:
(1)It is recommended to perform the battery charging in the middle and late stages of battery charging, when the volume of the electrolyte is most expanded.
(2) Regularly observe and measure the height of the electrolyte liquid level, the liquid level should be kept within the specified standard range, not too low or too high
(3) After replenishing the water, the liquid level of the battery electrolyte must not exceed the specified line, otherwise it will easily cause the electrolyte to overflow when the battery is charged, resulting in the loss of sulfuric acid, corroding the box and polluting the environment.
(4) If the liquid level is too low, the battery plate will be exposed to the electrolyte, and the contact with the air will cause the plate to oxidize, and the specific gravity of the electrolyte will be too high.
